Dear Mr. Buchanan,
I recently finished your book Day of Reckoning: How Hubris, Ideology, and Greed Are Tearing America Apart and have previously emailed your foundation, The American Cause, a query about the possibility of you speaking at my alma mater, Augustana College, in Rock Island, IL.
I publish an independent weekly, the River Cities Reader, in the bi-state region of the IA/IL Quad Cities.
After reading the WSJ's recent accounting (copied below) of Obama's stance against the US-Korea free trade agreement, I cannot help but think of your critique of the free-trader ideology, as outlined in Chapter 7, Colony of the World.
Based on this WSJ piece, do you think Obama understands and agrees with your distinction that free trade is a utopia that a republic can never attain while sustaining itself?
Do you agree with the Intl Trade Commission, as cited by WSJ, that US GDP will be boosted by $10B annually with this Korean deal?
Or could the Teamsters actually be a boon to the Republic in this regard, while the WSJ advocates what you call "utopian folly"?
In other words: Do Pat Buchanan and Barrack Obama agree on the folly of free trade?
While, excerpts of Chapter 7 juxtaposed with an accounting of Obama's stance on the FTA would make for very interesting reading, any insight you can lend to these questions would only help inform that discussion.
Meanwhile, I have lobbied anyone who will listen, to read Day of Reckoning.
Mike Whalen, who ran for 1st Congressional District in Iowa last election, recommended and loaned me this important book.
Day of Reckoning is an eye-opener like no other, and a must read for every American who wishes to understand where we came from and what is required to remain a free society.
Thank you for your great contributions to public discourse and ongoing efforts to salvage our Republic.
Sincerely,
Todd McGreevy
