Back to Jekyll Island: Defenders of the Constitution Meet
Wed, 05/20/2009 - 08:51
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Tuesday May 19, 2009
“The time has come to give our country back to the people of America by restoring our Constitution.”
- Bob Schulz, WTP Founder/Chair
Unprecedented Meeting of Freedom Movement Leaders
at Jekyll Island Begins Wednesday with 99-Year Old Train Ride
Three Day Project Includes Documenting the Origins of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and Planning Sessions to Peacefully Restore Constitutional Order
Jekyll Island, GA - The We The People Foundation for Constitutional Education, Inc., chaired by Bob Schulz, has organized a two-day summit of meetings (Thursday May 21 & Friday May 22) to be attended by over thirty leaders of the nation's most active memberships and readerships dedicated to peaceably holding the American government accountable to the Constitution.
The meetings, held on Jekyll Island, will begin Wednesday afternoon with many of the attendees retracing an historic and mysterious train ride taken 99 years ago from New Jersey to Georgia. That trip was made famous by G. Edward Griffin, who wrote The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve (http://www.realityzone.com/creature.html). Griffin, one of the attendees, documented how seven of America's banking leaders, representing one quarter of the world's wealth, secretly traveled to Jekyll Island in 1910 to create a banking cartel that would convince Congress and America it was a government agency. In 1913, the Federal Reserve Act, crafted on Jekyll Island, was put into place without constitutional authority by Congress.
The Federal Reserve system's lack of being federal or reserve has been emerging as a mainstream issue more Americans want to understand, thanks in large part, to the efforts of Congressman Ron Paul. His Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR1207 (http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h1207/show), has gained broad support from both major parties and now has at least 165 co-sponsors. Considering that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke presided over a meeting of Federal Reserve bankers at Jekyll Island earlier this month (http://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/speech/bernanke20090511a.htm), makes the We The People's Jekyll Island Project more timely than ever in the effort to build support for an accurate and transparent record of the Federal Reserve.
A Catalyst for Unity?
Organizers are hopeful that these meetings in the historically significant setting of Jekyll Island will enable critical networking and sharing of ideas amidst the over thirty Freedom Movement leaders attending. One of the stated goals of the Jekyll Island Project is “To make evident and secure the collaboration of national leaders who have dedicated themselves and their organizations to the preservation of the Constitution and our Founding Principles.” (http://wethepeoplefoundation.org/UPDATE/Update2009-05-08.htm)
The foundations, policy centers, caucuses, membership based educational organizations and activist groups represented at these meetings, including Schulz's own We The People foundation, have all dreamt of establishing a critical mass in awareness and action to defend the Constitution. Schulz is hopeful his concept for a Continental Congress 2009 will support these individual efforts and together achieve such critical mass.
Schulz conceived of the Jekyll Island project half way through his pre-Continental Congress speaking tour that ended this April. With the goal of mobilizing tens of millions of Americans to participate in electing three delegates from their own states to attend the Continental Congress 2009, Schulz determined that to achieve such a critical mass in a short period of time, the CC2009 would require the support of the nation’s leading groups and authors dedicated to defending the Constitution. “If those of us leading the Freedom movement can’t all agree on a pathway, how can we expect millions of Amercians to agree on one? The multitude of strategies to restore Constitutional order will have to be pursued together. No one front is going to save it all,” says Schulz. “Hopefully, what transpires on Jekyll Island this week will be a catalyst for such unity.”
Continental Congress 2009
Since 1995 when Schulz filed his first Petition for Redress and Grievance regarding the Treasury’s unauthorized $20B bailout of the Mexican peso, We The People Foundation has repeatedly sought Redress from officials in all three branches of the government for their repeated violations of the Constitution and their oaths to uphold the rule of law. (http://wethepeoplefoundation.org/#LatestNews)
Taking a page from the Founding Fathers, We The People Foundation is planning for an autumn Continental Congress 2009, a national assembly of elected delegates representing The People from all fifty states and the District of Columbia. (http://wethepeoplefoundation.org/UPDATE/Update2009-05-08.htm) Schulz has called the CC2009 “The appropriate next steps for a free people.” (NOTE: Organizers are quick to point out that this autumn event is NOT a Constitutional Convention , aka Con Con – they want the existing one to stay as it is -- nor can a Continental Congress of The People alter the Constitution.)
On April 30, Schulz completed his four-month 86-city tour to fifty states promoting CC2009. Two national coordinators and fifty state coordinators have been established, with a growing list of volunteers to make it happen. The Jekyll Island Project happening this week is, in part, an effort to accelerate the awareness and effectiveness of the Continental Congress 2009 effort.
Since last December, We the People have been promoting CC2009 as a viable project framework worthy of support. Support needed, says Schulz, “to document The People’s record of our Constitutional crisis and develop a viable, cohesive set of activist strategies to cure the cancer of despotism that now threatens the nation.”
The online slide show outlining the CC2009 Project Framework can be viewed and shared with all by clicking here: http://slideshow.com/presentations/7484-continental-congress-2009-slides...
This week’s meetings are for planning purposes only as over 30 leaders from dozens of organizations, devoted to various aspects of The Constitution, gather to share ideas and learn more about the CC2009 framework. Organizers hope the CC2009 becomes a collaboration that embraces the momentum and energy that each leader and organization has exhibited to peaceably restore Constitutional order. The CC2009 date and location is to be on the agenda, and thus far, Philadelphia, Colonial Williamsburg, New Hampshire, Chicago, Denver, Wisconsin and Boston have been suggested.
